One-Day Classic Sacred Valley Tour
Itinerary Sacred Valley Tour
Your adventure kicks off at 7:30 am as we pick you up from your hotel in our comfortable private van. We’ll head to the Sacred Valley of the Incas, and the first view will take your breath away: the Taray Viewpoint. From here, you’ll gaze upon the spectacular Urubamba Valley, with traditional agricultural communities in the valley’s depths and majestic mountain peaks rising in the distance.
PISAC
We’ll continue to the Pisac archaeological site, where you’ll dive deep into history. Explore an immense Inca cemetery with over 2000 tombs and be amazed by the incredible agricultural terraces carved into the mountain. We’ll spend approximately 1.5 hours exploring this ancient Inca city, where the original architecture still stands as a testament to its grandeur.
Next, we’ll return to the vibrant Pisac market, where you’ll have about 20 minutes to soak in the lively atmosphere and shop for local crafts. Afterward, we’ll head to Urubamba for lunch, where you can choose between a buffet restaurant serving delicious Peruvian cuisine or other nearby dining options.
SALT MINES: Pre-Incan Treasures
The Salinas de Maras (Salt Mines), near the picturesque colonial town of Maras, will transport you back to pre-Incan times. Hundreds of salt ponds adorn the mountainside and have been used for salt extraction since before the Inca era. A natural spring high in the valley releases extremely salty water, which is diverted to the salt ponds and evaporates to produce high-quality salt. Here, you’ll find naturally occurring pink salt, a rarity in the world! This hike is shorter but equally fascinating as the one in Pisac.
MORAY: The Incas’ Greenhouses
The intriguing Inca site of Moray, known as “The Incas’ Greenhouses,” is a unique archaeological gem. Enormous terraces carved into a giant bowl, some of which were excavated by the Incas, await you. Each terrace creates a different microclimate depending on its depth in the bowl. It’s believed that the Incas used them to experiment with optimal conditions for their crops. This stop is brief but revealing.
OLLANTAYTAMBO: Where History Comes to Life
Our final destination is Ollantaytambo, an Inca town that seems frozen in time. Here, you’ll explore the archaeological site for approximately 1 hour. You’ll discover the astounding architecture of the Temple of the Sun, the water fountains, the Incahuatana, and the impressive storehouses that bear witness to Inca greatness.
Finally, we will return to Cusco, or you can choose to stay at a hotel in Ollantaytambo to explore more. If you have tickets to Machu Picchu, you can take the train to Aguas Calientes the following day. If we return to Cusco, we will drop you off at your hotel at approximately 6:30 pm after a day filled with discoveries and unforgettable experiences in the heart of the Sacred Valley of the Incas.
