Name Airport
The airport named in honor of the Peruvian pilot Alejandro Velasco Astete, who was the first aviator to cross the Andes in 1925 from Lima to Cusco, is the Alejandro Velasco Astete International Airport. Alejandro Velasco Astete tragically lost his life in September of the same year while attempting to avoid a crash during an airshow in the city of Puno. In commemoration of his groundbreaking contributions to Peruvian aviation, the airport was named after him.
